Tempeh sandwiches

These were supposed to be like Mishka's (but I switched around the marinade to suit what I had)

I broiled some portobellos and red pepper in my cast-iron pan.

Marinated the tempeh in a combination of ginger powder, mustard powder, tamari, sesame oil, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar.

Broiled the tempeh for a while. It wasn't "crispy," but that was fine.
I made mine a double-decker. Also, I put sprouts and veganaise on it. It was really, really good.

I love your double decker! It reminds me of going to restaurants for lunch with my mom - she always got those double deckers.

Have you had the Urban Herbivore tempeh? How did your's compare? Oh - I also liked that you broiled it instead of frying it. Way less oil!

Yeah, I think a double-decker sandwich is pretty glamourous. Also, it holds in that extra tempeh better.

As far as Urban Herbivore, the first time I had their sandwich, it was really delicious, but the second time, the tempeh seemed dry and overcooked. I don't really remember what made the first one taste so good, since I'm mostly just remembering the not-so-good one.

Other than the sesame oil, I didn't use any oil in the cooking of the tempeh. Though, I'm sure that was made up for in the roasting of the peppers and mushroom (hella oil!), and the veganaise (ditto).

As an aside, it's almost Friday. Start percolating those recipe ideas! (soup anybody?)

Ok, so we're finally all synched up on the east and west coasts! I've been thinking soup as well. Something nice and rooty? Or beany? Or just really rich and flavorful?

I'm making a pasta fagioli (pasta and bean) soup from Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen to bring over to friends later . . .

You can actually make the tempeh lightly crispy if you saute/fry it in oil. By saute/fry I mean leave it in a pan on high or medium with some oil underneath it.
